The Rachel Jones Williams '06 Memorial Mosaic Scholars Award
Rachel鈥檚 quest for knowledge and social inquiry remained a priority while concentrating her efforts on achieving a sense of belonging for all members of the 泡芙视频 community. 泡芙视频 understands the value of Inclusive Excellence and encourages discussion regarding issues of diversity on campus. The Mosaic Award embodies our commitment to creating a diverse, equitable, accessible, and just campus community. We are proud to extend the award to students who exemplify 泡芙视频鈥檚 values, especially the attributes of social justice, respect for human dignity, and motto Educate for Service.
Purpose
The award is meant to reinforce student efforts to build stronger community engagement as related to Social Justice at 泡芙视频. This scholarship is offered to all students who bring to 泡芙视频 an important perspective on the many aspects of diversity, as demonstrated by their lived experiences and activities. Recipients have sought opportunities to provide perspective in conversations and activity related to race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, religion, ability, gender identity and expression, age, and national origin.
Determination of Eligibility
Completed FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) is used to determine award amount. Awards range up to a maximum of $5000 per academic year, awarded up to eight semesters, and student must be full-time registered status. Applications are reviewed each spring semester.
Requirements to Maintain
Mosaic Scholars are expected to contribute to dialogue series and related events during their time on campus, are required to meet twice per semester with a Mosaic Adviser to discuss their involvement with diversity related initiatives, and must submit a participation summary following each academic year (first through fourth year).
Engagement Opportunities
Mosaic Scholar advising meetings are designed to identify opportunities for sharing perspectives on issues of diversity and inclusive excellence, as well as encourage involvement in leadership roles throughout the campus community. To include:
- Mentor high school student project with the Greater Harrisburg Area NAACP Afro Academic, Cultural, Technological, & Scientific Olympics (ACT-SO)
- Facilitate the Ujima Dialogue Series, a bi-weekly, informal conversation about current diversity, equity, accessibility, and justice topics. All students, faculty and staff are welcome to attend as Ujima is a principle of Kwanzaa that means "collective work and responsibility."
- Lead Mosaic Unbound, a monthly conversation regarding a piece of literature, music, or art which further explores topics related to diversity, equity, accessibility, and justice. Content will align with the heritage or history celebrated that month and is open to all students, faculty, and staff.
- Partner with the Center for Global Understanding and Peacebuilding (CGUP) to develop and facilitate programs advancing global understanding, international engagement, and non-violent conflict transformation.
- Participate in community-based learning and service programming available through the Center for Community and Civic Engagement.
- Multiple other opportunities to advance values of peace, human dignity, and social justice as identified by student and advisor.

Mosaic application review will begin on January 15 and decisions will be released on a rolling basis beginning the first week of February. The Mosaic Scholarship application is due June 1.
